In my glass (es) tonight a 2018 Syncline Rose ( 44

In my glass (es) tonight a 2018 Syncline Rose ( 44% Mourvedre 28% Cinsault 28% Grenache) and a 2014 Gloria Ferrer Extra Brut. We paired with a caprese style salad of greens, avocado, mozzarella and nectarine and a noodle bowl with shrimp, bok choy, brocolli, mukimame, red pepper, garlic, carrot, a broth of dragon green tea, miso, and soy with rice noodles and seaweed. The rose was light and tasting it with the sparkling cleansed my palate bring forth the fruit notes. Both went well with the food for different reasons. The sparkling as a refreshing palate cleanser, the rose pulling forth the umami in the food and the food pulling forth fruit and floral in the wine. All in all lovely pairings all around....oh wait...there is still dessert! Coming soon! @gloriaferrerwines

Had to share this fun shot of me and Loki from our shoot yesterday with the fabulous RuBen Permel. RuBen made me feel pretty AND he bonded with Loki, getting a head butt after this shot! (See! He does like you RuBen!)

It's how we are rolling tonight!
2013 Descendants Liegeois Dupont Red Mountain Syrah from Hedges family Estate.
This is from the Red Mountain AVA in Washington's Yakima Valley AVA. All day we have been working on our video interview with Hedges winemaker Sarah Hedges Goedhart (watch for those soon). So opening a bottle of Hedges wine was a no brainers this evening. The geeky bits...
These grapes are from their Les Grosses Vineyard on Red Mountain. Destemmed, partial crush, stainless steel fermenters...pressed to barrel, malo-lactic fermentation, racked off lees. Barrel aged 11 month in 40% new American and French Oak. 14.5% abv $29.00 drop My notes
It opens with great Syrah funk that I adore! Earth smoke barnyard leather cocoa....my nose was in heaven! The fruit on the palate is blueberries, blackberries and figs, with dark cherries and chocolate and then a bit of lovely baking spice on the end. Intense without being overpowering, we sipped this for a while (working on videos) before pairing (you'll have to watch for the pairings) @hedgeswine

What to pair with a Clairette Blanche? Shellfish are perfect! We did mussels and scallops. You might find notes of pineapple, citrus, mint and anise. We tied these in with a salad of fresh greens shaved anise root and fronds, mint, avocado and a citrus vinaigrette. We did some fresh pineapple on the side.

Clairette Blanche Another one for #tryjanuary !
This wine from @tablascreek is the 3rd vintage of this southern Rhône variety that they have bottled as a single variety wine. "Once one of the most widely planted grapes in the south of France.", Tablas says on their site (where by the way, you can find amazing info on all the Southern Rhône varieties that they have brought to the US) They mention it is reminiscent of Picpoul. I can see that. Though it is a little less zingy than Picpoul to me. This is typically a blending Grape. They mention pineapple, key lime and mint with a little anise on the palate. I get all of that.
We paired this with mussels, scallops, pineapple and a salad of fresh greens, sliced anise, citrus zest, avocado, anise fronds, mint in a citrus vinaigrette. Everything paired beautifully.
Thank you Tablas Creek for a varietal bottling so I can taste and see what this grape brings to blends!

The other day for #tryjanuary I did a shout out for Semillon. Tonight, we popped an aged one (you are right @travellingcorkscrew ). This particular Semillon is a 2006 from @coolangatta_estate on the Shoalhaven Coast of Austrailia's New South Wales. It is a stunner. Bright AND rich. Words I don't often find together when describing a white wine. This wine will stand up to bold foods and has great acid. Rich lemon and grapefruit pith. It's really lovely. Grown at Coolangatta Estate this wine is made by the winemaker at the legendary Tyrrell's. We stayed at this historic property and spent and afternoon with Greg Bishop, the owner of this lovely estate. We are thinking of Greg and everyone in the Shoalhaven area, which currently has uncontrolled fires that they are fighting. We know everyone there is working hard to keep this beautiful area safe.
