Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to Saint Vulbas, France – Day 5
Today, we pass through the Savoie AOC in the mountainous region of the French Alps.
We pass through Combe de Savoie and Cluse de Chambery, which includes Abymes, Apremont, Saint-Jeoire-Prieure, Chignin, Chignin Bergeron, Montméliean, Arbin, Curet, and Saint-Jean-de-la-Porte.
From Chambery, the route goes south, then travels north through the Cote du Cheval Blanc and then on the East side of the Rhone through the Bougey AOC.
This region in the French Alps produces white wines from grapes like Altesse, Chasselas, Gringet, Jacquère, & Roussanne. Yes, likely many of these grapes you are not familiar with. Gringet is only found in the region and there are only about 54 acres.
